Twinning cities or sister cities are a form of legal and social agreement between towns, cities, and or countries in geographically and politically distinct regions to promote cultural and commercial bonds. The objective is to foster friendship and understanding between different cultures as a gracious act of peace and partnership, and to encourage trade, tourism and other internationally-based business initiatives.
