Urgent Media Release: Mayor Tim Kee vs NCBA Chairman on Children’s Mas in the City.
His Worship the Mayor of Port of Spain Alderman Raymond Tim Kee is expressing disgust and outrage at statements attributed to NCBA Chairman David Lopez in a media report today regarding children’s mas in the Capital City which is scheduled to take place on Carnival Saturday.
Mayor Tim Kee is flabbergasted that Mr. Lopez is once again seeking to cause trauma to the thousands of young masqueraders and their bandleaders on the eve of the children’s mas’ parade which has its home in the heart of downtown Port of Spain.
As far as theMayor is concerned, the NCBA Chairman cannot pronounce on anything that takes place in the City and is challenging Mr. Lopez to interfere in arrangements already discussed and agreed to with the official body of Carnival, the National Carnival Commission which is chaired by Lorraine Pouchet.
Mayor Tim Kee is emphatic that the carnival parade will start in Downtown Port of Spain and is prepared to take whatever steps necessary to ensure that Mr. Lopez does not interfere or deviate from the agreement made a month ago to have the children’s carnival parade start at the South Quay location and not at Adam Smith Square as being proposed once again despite last year’s controversy.
